About

The Who, What, and Where…

My name's rzklkng, and I'm a dad, husband, and student. I work at Philadelphia-area University. I am also taking classes and progressing towards a Masters Degree.

Disclaimer: All opinions expressed on this website are mine and mine alone, and do not represent the opinions of my employer, peers, spouse, offspring, or dog.

I was born and raised in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia and now live just outside of the city in Delaware County. My interests encompass anything automotive, new-media related, consumer research, the Freedom of Information Act, Broken Institutions, webculture, Psychology, and pop culture.

Why blog?

I'm not really sure… I can tell you that it's addictive, and once you start, you can't stop. I almost never blog about people and things I know about, so you most likely will not see that here.

Creativity is my religion. The internet is my church. I'm not better than a wackjob fundamentalist christian.  he difference is when you are creative, YOU ARE IN CHARGE. You decide, you produce, you admire. If others appreciate it, then it's gravy. You don't need some sky god or man in a dress to tell you that you done good.

I write for myself. But it feels good when peers or friends mention something they read on your blog. Or when they value your knowledge enough to ask your opinion.  So please, if I know you personally, let me know you were here.  And if I don't signup and leave a comment.

Why Akkam's Razor?

The postulate of Occam's Razor stipulates, to paraphrase, that sometimes the simplest, most obvious, or most probable explanation is best.

I've come to realize that our perceptions, wishful thinking, & prejudices sometimes influence if not overwhelm our sense of reality.

Also, as the amount of information we are exposed to influentiallyincreases, it becomes tempting to consider the sexy possible, while sometimes ignoring the boring possible. Clearing my head, & reevaluating the problem & employing Occam's Razor sometimes helps simplify the problem.

As for the spelling, the variations of the official spelling (Occam's Razor) were all taken as domain names, so I chose Akkam's Razor as a bastardized derivative.

Why rzklkng?

About "rzklkng"…it's referring to "the Rascal King", as in the Mighty Mighty Bosstones song of the same name, memorializing Boston's Mayor/Governor James Michael Curley. It's been my webmail for all of the webmails I've used since 1996 or 1997.  The video for "The Rascal King" can be found on YouTube, and the lyrics are at Songmeanings.

What's my metaphor?Big Knife

I like to think of myself as a Swiss Army Knife - applicable to almost any situation, but typically not the best tool for the job.

In all things, I'm a generalist - I know just enough about almost everything to either offer an opinion, start an argument, or get myself in trouble.

The things that I don't know I have a natural curiousity about, and my favorite question to ask is why - the nuts and bolts for how things work and what people do is fascinating, but it's all meaningless if you don't understand what's going on in thier hearts and minds - what makes them tick.
