Operation Honeypot: No-Fly List as a Spreadsheet

June 23rd, 2005 · No Comments

Every now and then, you come across something unusual in your referrer logs. Last time this happened to me, it was various RNC and GOP operatives who’s names were connected to the infamous caging list debacle on GeorgeWBush.org.

This time, it’s a little more interesting:

Let me blow up the interesting parts for you:

Now I’m not the first blogger to have had this happen, and there are plenty of other interesting stories out their about what people are looking for online and how they got to your website.

The scary question here is “Why is someone at the CIA searching for the “no fly list” online in Excel format?” You would hope that this wouldn’t be in someone’s shared “My Documents” folder on Kazaa. Of course, it’s quite possible that such a document could get out, since the list is made by the guardians of privacy and massive government contractor, Choicepoint.

After digging a little further on the IP address, it seems that IP address is used for incoming mail and outgoing web surfing.
