This is a great 1-hour special on the Military Channel – American Arsenal – telling of the City of Philadelphia’s role in winning World War II. It is on 4 times in December – at 8 and 11pm on 12/12, 5am on 12/13, and 4pm on 12/19. Certainly a well-spent 60-minutes of your time.

Band of Brothers in the Pacific
Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks are currently working on the Pacific Theater’s version of Band of Brothers for HBO, titled “the Pacific” [IMDB]. Somehow, this has been known and on the internet since the early summer.
I had previously written about Band of Brothers both here and on Metafilter.

“Will it be like the Great Depression?”
Yesterday was one of the few times my wife engaged me on politics and economics. (If anything, she usually chastises me for being too interested). She plainly asked me what’s going on and what it means for us. She asked if I thought it would be like the Great Depression, with people out of work, waiting in line at soup kitchens. I reflexively answered yes, and then spelled out my rationale.
After having the time to reflect on the question, my answers, the bailout, and the landscape as I see it, I can now say that I may have been wrong.
