As we now know, Major Hassan was not killed, but rather captured alive. Reports of a second – and third – shooter also now appear to be inaccurate. Whether someone was shot “in the balls” hasn’t been publicly confirmed and, for the sake the of the victim’s privacy, let’s hope it never is – but the point is that many of Moore’s eye-witness reports weren’t worth the bits they were written on. They had no value whatsoever, except as entertainment and tragi-porn.

Gmail Users are Young, Female; AOL Users are Older – Social media data company Rapleaf has just completed a comprehensive study involving the demographics and behavior of webmail users. In the first part of their study, they looked specifically at age and gender data and revealed some interesting findings. For example, did you know that Gmail has more female users than male? And that Hotmail is the other way around? Meanwhile, AOL users are older…but maybe not as old as you think.

Daily Number: A Scarcity of Car Lovers – Pew Research Center – Americans' romance with the automobile seems to be cooling off a bit. A Pew Research survey conducted in 2006 found that just 23% say they consider their car "something special — more than just a way to get around," barely half of the 43% who felt this way in 1991.

If the ones who carried out these explosions were Serbs, Mossad, Seventh Day Adventists, Colombian gangs, or the CIA, it would be meaningless to question us about extremism, the culture of fanaticism and religious excess, the need to revise the concepts that establish religious violence, and all this continuous headache of questions that keep hammering on the mind of the society. The matter is easy with these conspiratorial illusions, and presenting critical questions becomes meaningless "intellectual luxury" and verbosity.

STATS: Flat Month for Social Media, With Some Surprises – Part of the reason could have merely been the summer slumber, which causes a drop in traffic on almost all Internet destinations; since traffic growth was almost flat on Facebook and Twitter in both July and August, we can probably expect some healthy growth again in September. Summer hasn’t been bad for everyone though, as some social sites have done very well in July and August.
