Do collegiate teabaggers want limited student government?

The rational, principled argument for a Republican or Independent college student would of course be “no”.  The theatrics of yesterdays tantrum in a teapot on Capitol Hill (contrasted by the killings at Fort Hood and within the context of Guy Fawkes Day) really obscures how most people feel about government.

People generally don’t care about government, or at least will tolerate the status quo so long as their lives are comfortable,  the mail gets delivered, and the trash gets picked up.  As soon as effective governing becomes impossible via scandal, ideology, or externalities (like the economy), any politican, regardless of party, is vulnerable.  You can see it in the polling data from the 2009 NJ Governors race, based on voting priorities (summed-up by taxgirl):

South Carolina is the New Florida

It appears that South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s “hike in the Appalachians” was just the beginning.  The anti-gay Lt. Governor – Andre Bauer – that would replace Sanford should he resign has been outed (Blogactive via Gawker), and Sanford’s social conservative, home schooling member of the SC Board of Education -Kristin Mcguire, aka Bridget Keeney – has resigned amid a flurry of allegations that she wrote saucy amateur porn under a nom de plume.

We on the left are quick to yell hypocripsy, but that’s not the real issue here.   Those that take issue with the behavior of this threesome are conservatives themselves.  What is it about conservatives and the need to be publicly pious and privately perverted?  Why can’t they just be themselves?

McCain’s younger, newer model.

Well, it looks like the McCain camp has gone with “younger and even less experienced than Obama” with his choice of Sarah Palin [wiki], the current Governor of Alaska, as his Vice Presidential nominee. They are clearly going for the Zombie Hillary-for-McCain PUMA crowd, who apparently will vote for anything with a vagina, despite the conflict with their own interests, such as her being anti-reproductive freedom. The horny white-male demographic may also gravitate to her, as Imus and the boys have referred to her a ‘milf’ with a ‘slutty librarian image’.

She clearly is a friend to the energy industry, given her support for ANWR drilling, pipelines, and the like. Oh, and there is a teeny-tiny minor abuse-of-power issue in scandal-ridden Alaska that her fellow Republicans are threatening to investigate.

BTW, Wikipedia had the news 2-hours prior to the official announcement. Fivethirtyeight had the math a month-ago.
