Chapter 9 bankruptcies, municipalities, and the Oracle at Mountain View

I ran across a current article from the WSJ highlighting that some municipalities may need to contemplate Chapter 9 bankruptcies:

The economic slump, however, is forcing debt-laden cities, towns and smaller taxing districts throughout the U.S. to consider using Chapter 9. As their revenue declines faster than expenses, some public entities are scrambling to keep making payments on municipal bonds. Student Loan Relief for Some

Today’s  Philadelphia Inquirer has a story which highlights the newest changes regarding student loan repayment:

A federal law went into effect this month that allows people to adjust student-loan payments based on their income. The program limits monthly payments to 15 percent of the difference between the debtor’s income and 150 percent of the federal poverty guideline.

  • Financial Responsibility in the United States – A credit infographic from BillShrink.
  • Historical Home Prices – A dynamic chart/infographic of the US economy and home prices.
  • Flip Flop Fly Ball – Essentially, this site is what I'd have been doing when I was 12 years old had the Internet and Photoshop been available to me in the eighties. As well as the infographics there are a few other bits and bobs; like small pixiliated portraits of some baseball players. They are filleted from a bigger collection of Minipops (that's what I call them) which is one of the biggest parts of my main web site, Flip Flop Flyin' (thus the name of this site). There's also some photos from some of the stadiums I've visited, and a few drawings.

  • PsyBlog: Leaders Emerge by Talking First and Most Often – Crucially, though, the study showed that not only did a leader's dominant behaviour of itself encourage others to see that person as competent, but this was true even though their suggestions to the group were no better, or even worse than others. In reality the leaders did not always make the best contribution to the task, but their voices were usually heard first and most often.
