  • Changes in Voter Registration - Wow.
  • Firedoglake » They’re Not Even Pretending Anymore - Only 36 of the 2,380 delegates seated on the convention floor are black, the lowest number since the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies began tracking diversity at political conventions 40 years ago. Each night, the overwhelmingly white audience watches a series of white politicians step to the lectern — a visual reminder that no black Republican has served as a governor, U.S. senator or U.S. House member in the past six years.

Cultivating a Renewed Culture War Has Consequences

Others have stated that the pick of Palin as VP is an overt dog-whistle to the hard-right.  I don’t doubt that at all.

Karl Rove has been oft-mocked in regards to his statements of “the math” during the 2006 Election.  Rove’s thesis was that the American voters were tired of corruption - this being the alleged driving force behind the Siegelman corruption case as well as the US Attorney Scandal.  Rove was right, but he wasn’t necessarily correct.  We know how 2006 turned out.

“Prisoner of the Right” versus “Black Reagan”

September 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

The more we hear about the non-vetting of Sarah Palin, the more desperate the McCain camp appears. Here’s my take on what happened.

McCain would have preferred Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman. The “enthusiasm gap” - the lack of excitement and engagement of Evangelicals threatens to subdue turnout, guaranteeing a McCain loss - made neither of those choices palpable. Ridge was wholly unacceptable to “the base” due to his being pro-choice. Lieberman, however, was clearly the pick of the Neocons; his choice would likely cause Rush Limbaugh to relapse. A pick of Lieberman would essentially cede domestic policy back to the Democrats.

  • The Washington Monthly: John Didn’t Get What He Wanted - John didn't get what he wanted. Right. He could have waited to make his decision until after Palin had been thoroughly vetted. That, however, would have meant giving up his clever idea of announcing his VP pick the day after Obama's convention speech. Alternately, he could have gone with one of the people who had been thoroughly vetted: Pawlenty, for instance. But "neither was the transformative, attention-grabbing choice Mr. McCain felt he needed, top campaign advisers said". So he decided to gamble it all on someone he barely knew and had not vetted.

On Google Chrome

Google’s Chrome (download) is pretty nice.  The comic book promo stuff is cute, too.  It certainly feels faster than Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer.

But for it to be my daily browser, it would need to tie in the various Google Products, like Docs, Talk, Gmail, etc.  An option that occurs to me after reading the TOS would be taking items saved locally on a users PC (or on Google Services) and using that activity, items, or keywords to drive advertising.

To the “we’re better than that” crowd regarding Sarah Palin…

September 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

One may like  think we’re better than that - repeating baseless rumors as smears - especially when there are so many character defects available, not to mention the McCain camps lack of proper vetting.  This is their game we’re playing - by their rules.  Stop acting like wimps! There’s nothing Americans hate more than a loser.

Consider the following excerpted from an article titled “Did the Jedi Have it Coming?”:

Seeing your own shadow

Complacency of this magnitude carries with it the seeds of downfall.
