Snake-oil, anyone? You have always been able to glean knowledge from web metrics. User behavior is correlated with certain demographics, socioeconomic indicators, and psychographics.
The push for subscriptions and behavioral advertising makes it more so. But this quote should make advertisers and clients shudder:

So wait, we’re going to get the same guys who were tone deaf to reality and let them form assumptions about advertising, where said assumptions and outcomes are directly linked to their financial performance? When will the Madoff Advertising firm be incorporated?
