Daily Links for February 15th

  • Are you using Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter differently? | Blog of Mr. Tweet – Recently something struck me as I was checking out Facebook in the morning. One of my friends wrote a note for a party he was having, and I left a somewhat raunchy comment (joking of course). Immediately after that I switched over to Twitter, and tweeted a couple of very professional sounding comments and links.
  • The Atlantic Online | March 2009 | How the Crash Will Reshape America | Richard Florida – The crash of 2008 continues to reverberate loudly nationwide—destroying jobs, bankrupting businesses, and displacing homeowners. But already, it has damaged some places much more severely than others. On the other side of the crisis, America’s economic landscape will look very different than it does today. What fate will the coming years hold for New York, Charlotte, Detroit, Las Vegas? Will the suburbs be ineffably changed? Which cities and regions can come back strong? And which will never come back at all?
  • Mining The Thought Stream – What if you could peer into the thoughts of millions of people as they were thinking those thoughts or shortly thereafter? And what if all of these thoughts were immediately available in a database that could be mined easily to tell you what people both individually and in aggregate are thinking right nowabout any imaginable subject or event? Well, then you’d have a different kind of search engine altogether. A real-time search engine. A what’s-happening-right-now search engine.
  • IR theory for lovers: a valentine’s guide – So maybe learning some [international relations] theory can actually help your love life. If it does, and you're lucky enough to find the right person, and then you might decide you want to institutionalize the relationship by getting married. (This assumes that you're straight, of course, or fortunate enough to live in a part of the world that recognizes the rights of gay people to marry as well).
