A Cunning Array of Stunts

September 24th, 2008 · 1 Comment

This really should come as no surprise, as McCain has an established track record of pulling the ejection handle or rapid reverses.  By now you’ve certainly heard that John McCain has ’suspended’ his campaign.

(Yeah, yeah - I know its an F-16, an Air Force jet, and the Thunderbirds.  But it works…)

This morning, the WSJ reports the following occurred:

“At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a joint statement outlining their shared principles and conditions for the Treasury proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal,” Mr. Burton said in an email to reporters. “At 2:30 this afternoon, Senator McCain returned Senator Obama’s call and agreed to join him in issuing such a statement. The two campaigns are currently working together on the details.”

So, has also come out this morning that McCain hurting in the polls.  Palin is still brushing up on her foreign policy credentials.  The Wall Street Bailout package is looking less and less certain.  What’s a Maverick to do?

St. McCain, the most absent member of the Senate (last voting in March of this year), decides to go it alone, suspend his campaign, and return to DC and assist in the negotiations, going even further to suggest cancelling the first televised Friday night debate.  As it stands, the Obama campaign is not buying, with Harry Reid saying the following:

This is a critical time for our country. While I appreciate that both candidates have signaled their willingness to help, Congress and the Administration have a process in place to reach a solution to this unprecedented financial crisis.

I understand that the candidates are putting together a joint statement at Senator Obama’s suggestion. But it would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation’s economy. If that changes, we will call upon them. We need leadership; not a campaign photo op.

If there were ever a time for both candidates to hold a debate before the American people about this serious challenge, it is now.

Thankfully, the Obama campaign put the American voter first, and not John McCain’s campaign, saying “thanks but no thanks” - game onPollsters, the public, pundits, Letterman, and the press seem to agree.  For additional EPIC FAIL, check out the talking points the McCain camp accidentally sent to the wrong people.  McCain is also not helped by Senator Lindsey Graham hinting that the Vice Presidents debate would likely need to be skipped, and his palling around this week with Mitt Romney, often regarded as McCains’ better VP choice.  The only saving grace is that McCain’s stunt and the economic crisis has kept Palin’s disastrous interview with Katie Couric out of sight, and possibly a chance for the Justice League of Lobbyists to get their place at the bailout-trough.

Obama will attend a meeting tomorrow (Thursday) at the President’s request, to meet with US Treasury, Federal Reserve, and Congressional leaders:

“A few moments ago, President Bush called Senator Obama and asked him to attend a meeting in Washington tomorrow, which he agreed to do. Senator Obama has been working all week with leaders in Congress, Secretary Paulsen, and Chairman Bernanke to improve this proposal, and he has said that he will continue to work in a bipartisan spirit and do whatever is necessary to come up with a final solution. He strongly believes the debate should go forward on Friday so that the American people can hear from their next President about how he will lead America forward at this defining moment for our country,” said Obama-Biden spokesman Bill Burton.

This totally puts a crimp on my drinking, chatting, and blogging for Friday night :(

Let me get this straight. McCain, the Republican Candidate who has publicly admitted in the recent past that he “does not really understand the economy” is rushing off to Washington this week to help Bush with
(wait for it) THE ECONOMY ???
Holy ** please let Mr McCain’s plane be grounded. Anything but this !
Can this situation in Washington get any more bizarre and serious ? Well if Bush and McCain get to put their two little heads together YES it definately could get ALOT WORSE. We’d be better off if the Good Humour Man was at the White House handling this situation this week than having these two gentlemen get anywhere near each other !

But Come ‘On ! It is clear that McCain is scared stiff of debating Obama.
McCain now will make any lame excuse to escape this Debate on Friday night. It’s going to be interesting to watch Mr McCain and his Republican handlers squirm, bob, and weave until Friday night trying desperatley to get out of this one. Stay tuned America ! But Hey ? It’ll make great TV if nothing else. I am going to make a big bag of popcorn and get ready for many belly laughs (If McCain actually shows UP) !
Furthermore, check these clash videos I found yesterday about the US Presidential candidates have talked taxes. Well, it’s entitled Obama v. McCain on Taxes. Watch these statements - then vote in http://clashorama.com/index.php?id=194
