Akkam’s Razor

The GOP mascot should be a parrot – they repeat whatever talk radio, Foxnews, and the punditocracy says.  Hence the “extreme liberal” Krugman.  The there is the adherence to  faith-based economics.  They’ve heard the hagiography on Reagan so many times that whatever has been said is accepted, facts be damned.  Besides, one could argue that Jodie Foster was actually responsible for the tax cuts and subsequent growth.

You can’t talk about cutting taxes without acknowledging and dealing with the inevitable deficit, unless you are willing to cut services, which no one can politically do.  In essence, by continually operating on deficit and adding to the national debt, we are in essence no better than the troubled finance institutions or the out-of-equity US homeowner -  we have overleveraged by debt, and dependent on new capital to finance growth, and then deliver tax revenue on that growth.

“Cutting taxes” is a marketing strategy, not a fiscal or economic policy.  The fact of the matter is that after cutting taxes, no matter how impractical, leaves prudent politicians in a Catch-22, by reversing tax cuts, raising taxes, or allowing tax-cuts to expire, Democrats hand Republicans the most effective tool for winning elections.  It doesn’t matter if it is true, only if it is useful.
