Starting this evening, the Discovery Channel’s new network, Planet Green, will be broadcasting the remarkable story of Greensburg Kansas [wiki] as a 13-part documentary.
The town of Greensburg was destroyed (0nly 5% of the structures remained, with 11 of the towns 1500 citizens killed) by an F5 tornado, captured in this YouTube video:

Greensburg City Council subsequently passed a resolution requiring that all new buildings were to be built to LEED certification, making the city the first to do so.
