I really don’t care who McCain is or is not schtupping, no matter what the most liberal newspaper says.
I do care when McCain’s campaign staff contains former (and presumed future) lobbyists, at one point more than any other campaign, some of whom are working gratis. This seems to run counter to the reform and honesty plank of the Straight Talk Express. One can’t help but think back to his involvement as one of the Keating Five during the Savings and Loan scandal of the early 1990s. McCain is also no stranger to creative campaign financing – note that in order to secure a loan, he had to pledge to get public financing if his campaign faltered, secured by both his mailing losts and a life insurance policy (he IS in his 70s, after all).
I care that this lobbyist in question, Vicki Iseman who :hearts: McCain, btw – bragged about the influence she had with the Senator, and that her clients frequently had business in front of the Commerce Committee that McCain chaired, such as the Home Shopping Network’s Bud Paxton.
I also care that second wives are talked about as though first wives don’t exist – note that McCain left the wife who waited for him through his POW captivity to marry into Cindy Lou’s money and his first campaign for public office. And now, like so many before her, she has to stand next to the love of her life as he denies claims of infidelity.
Of course, this will be good for Republicans and John McCain. If the GOPers can’t win via the threat of ANOTHER President Clinton, they can always unite the party against the liberal media (they’re already asking the base for money).
On the other hand, the NYTimes was reportedly forced into running the story, which they had held since December, as several competitors were sniffing around. As others have noted, there is likely more here than has been mentioned…
