I'm happy to see that Mayoral-Candidate Michael Nutter has seized a 10-point lead over Tom Knox in the most recent Keystone Poll. With 21% undecided, Nutter is the presumptive winner, even if half of the undecided break for Knox (or the other candidates). Even more refreshing, Nutter leads amongst both blacks and whites – fortunately it appears that the city is voting on character and not solely on race.
There are indications from both the left and right that September is the cutoff for success, whatever that means, in Iraq. The crackdown on MilBloggers and honest portrayals of conditions, an increase in deployments, ever-extending deployments for troops in the field, a surge that is in many cases increasing levels of violence , and a more hostile stance towards the media all point to a bloody and violent summer.
Mike Gravel might be afraid of these guys, but I'm more concerned about the happy man going to the gates of hell and this trio of members of the Flat-Earth Society.
Wayne Madsen is reporting that the Vice-President was the notable CEO on the DC Madam list (re-reported on Planet of the Chimps, and intimates that someone pressured ABC-Disney to squash the story, resulting in quite-the-letdown on Friday-nights broadcast. The Co-Commander-in-Chief is currently giving locker room pep-talks in Iraq. This information has not been readily confirmed via any other source.
In other news, regarding the non-scandal of the DC Madam list, there has been a gaggle of (presumably) non-related resignations in senior positions at the White House. This is an awkward period to be replacing senior staff, and has the White House has been experiencing, very few diplomatic or bureaucratic individuals are willing to sacrifice their reputations by joining this administration or by wilting before a skeptical Congress.
It appears habeas corpus may return within the pages of the Defense Appropriations Bill.
Think twice about the culture of your online community or Web 2.0 webapp – Penn Law graduate Anthony Ciolli found his job offer at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge recinded, as reported at the Law Blog at the Wall Street Journal over his role as "Chief Education Director" at troubled academic legal forum AutoAdmit (as exposed in the WaPo regarding attacks and defamation primarily towards females). It's useful to think about this after the digg-revolt of May 5th changed everything, and that "with great power [online], comes great responsibility". Via MeFi.
