I found it ironic that all three (Fox Sunday) animated primetime sitcoms took on politically charged subjects, especially as they are broadcast on the FOX Network…
Family Guy (video from DailyMotion) cuts right to the chase, with Peter and Lois obsessing over Brian's obsession with hair-metal, oblivious to the fact that Brian and Stewie are in Iraq. American Dad (again, video from DailyMotion) had Stan falling in with the Log Cabin Republicans, hoping to garner a slot speaking at the Republican Convention. He is shocked to discover that the Log Cabin Republicans are gay, and furthermore that being gay is not a choice. In a rousing speach, he encourages the Republican Party to give up on hating the gays, especially when they can direct that hate to the Democrats, which was met with rousing applause.
Most suprisingly is the Simpsons, who have mostly stayed away from Bush and critical issues. This year's Treehouse of Horror ends with Kang and Codos invading Springfield after Orson Welles War of the Worlds broadcast, then fast forwards to "three years later", lamenting that they would be "treated as liberators". Suprisingly enough, the ending as provided to Fox and the ending as broadcast are not the same (embedded below and found via digg):
