Prediction for the 2006 Midterm Elections

November 6th, 2006 · No Comments

Here they are…

Governor, PA: Rendell wins over Swann (58/42)
Senator, PA: Casey beats Santorum (55/45)
House of Representatives, PA-07: Sestak beats Weldon (60/40)

And some additional stuff…
  • Turnout higher than some prior Presidential Election years, possibly highest ever for a midterm.
  • All 7 governors races go to Democrats, but with small than expected margins.  This may be indicators that "something else" has happened.  I predict Rendell but under 60%.
  • Republicans keep the Senate.
  • Democrats retake the house well in excess of the 15 they need.  Some previously considered "safe" Republicans will find themselves in deep trouble with an angry electorate that is no longer aligned with them.  I've seen predictions of Democrats taking as many as 40-seats (again, they only need 15 for control).
  • Unusual statistical anomalies is areas, far inexcess of what prior polling has indicated.
  • The usual shrill right-wing yammering about big city voting fraud, the dead voting, and so on.
  • More and more deceptive robocall ads - with the media (hopefully) covering it in detail.
  • In some areas, the sum of absentee ballots and votes recorded will exceed the usual turnuot if not the total number of registered voters.
  • Some races will not be decided for days if not weeks.  Expect any race where the margin of victory is within the margin of error to be contested.

Hopefully I'll know by tomorrow night how right-or-wrong I was…
