Akkam’s Razor

Curt Weldon made some exasperated desparate claims to Stephen Morse for "the Spin", a blog for the University of Pennsylvania student newspaper, the Daily Pennsylvanian, eager to distract everyone from the cloud of corruption that appears to be following the 10-term Congressman around.

Here are the facts:

The "leak" did not come from CREW, to the best of anyone's knowledge save the rambling of a paranoid Congressman.  So far Curt has blamed the following for his predicament - the FBI, the CIA, the Pentagon, former NSA director Sandy Berger, former CIA analyst Mary McCarthy, Bill Clinton, MoveOn, CREW and Melanie Sloan, George Soros, and the Sestak campaign?

2 1/2 years ago, CREW filed a complaint investigating Weldon's actions, as detailed in both Harper's and the LA Times (here and here).  It was referred for investigation, and then nothing happened from it.

Now, 2 1/2 years later, someone leaks to the media that the FBI is about to drop the hammer on Weldon's daughter and Delaware County GOP "Kingfish" Charlie Sexton, and all hell breaks loose.  While we're on the subject of sheer speculation, I think I like Billmon's explanation:

But the timing of the raid reinforces a suspicion I had when news of the FBI probe originally leaked on Friday. It seemed to me then, and still does, that someone was actually trying to do a little damage control work on behalf of Curt and/or the Republican Party. Except now I'm wondering whether the tip off was an attempt at news management or more of an exercise in document management — if you know what I mean. Have the shredders been working overtime at Chez Weldon over the weekend?

It appears the DP got played by the GOP noise machine.
