Dear Delco, Are you as stupid as they want you to be (Part 1)?

It’s almost unbearable, the onslaught of negative TV political advertisements.  So and so did this, and he or she did that, all meaningless political babble designed to punch your hot buttons without a shred of legitimacy or truthfulness.

Let’s tale a moment and review a trio of Curt Weldon campaign mailers that arrived on my door. One from “Independent Fighter” Curt Weldon, and two “swift-boat” flyers from the NRCC (that’s National REPUBLICAN Congressional Committee). Again, take notice that the dreaded word “Republican” does not appear anywhere on Weldon’s mailer nor any of his other campaign materials.

The first mailer is a compare and contrast of Weldon’s firefighter heritage, a group shot with him standing among real heroes, with the tagline:

On the Issues that Matter Most to Our Region…There is a Difference.

Flipping it over reveals a matrix comparing the Weldon legacy to Joe Sestak, stating that Sestak has no regional approach or plan to Job and Economic Development, Transportation Infrastructure, Open Space and the Environment, and Education and Children, whereas Weldon has a proven legislative track record.

Another problem with Weldon’s track record is that in the House of Representatives, you’re only as good as your last two years, and many of Weldon’s accomplishments are in the distant past.  As you may have heard, Weldon has voted along party lines, and particularly in line with President Bush 90% of the time.

An important item to bring up – as of June 2006, a review of the campaign finance documentation reveals that the overwhelming majority (only 25% from in-state) of Weldon’s campaign contributions came from outside the state of Pennsylvania, with half of them coming from the Political Action Committees of his Congressional Peers or corporate interests.  Conversely, 80% of Sestak’s funds come from individuals, with nearly 60% coming from in-state.  Perhaps Weldon’s plans benefits others more than his own constituency?
