Irony. Ain’t it a Bitch?!?

Another funny joke:

Q: Why won't they let Congressmen check books out of the Library of Congress?
A: Because they are always bending over the pages.

So unless you are in a coma, you know that a Congressman (Mark Foley) from America's Penis, Florida, resigned in disgrace for trying to LOL'r a 17-year old Congressional Page over the internets.

Here's one of the cornerstone issues he ran on to get into Congress:

Rep. Mark Foley (R), who’s running for the Senate seat from Florida held by Bob Graham (D), came out swinging recently when he took on Florida’s nudists.

After meeting with officials of one nudist summer camp for children, near Tampa, Foley said he wanted to see the camp adopt stricter background checks for employees and tighter security to keep out “creepy old guys,” otherwise known as COGs. The Tampa area has long been a haven for nudists and nudist resorts.

Here's what he had to say about cigar-hiding, fat-chick fondling President Clinton:

“It’s vile,” said Rep. Mark Foley, R-West Palm Beach. “It’s more sad than anything else, to see someone with such potential throw it all down the drain because of a sexual addiction.” - On Bill Clinton, 1998.

More irony?  He was Chairman of the Missing and Exploited Children Congressional Caucus.

Wait.  There's more.

Here's his comments on the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act:

Mr. Speaker, I rise (heh, heh…rzklkng) to offer my strong support for the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act.

I remember that tragic day in Hollywood, Florida, when a young Adam Walsh hit the headlines, having been abducted from a mall in our State. Over 2 years ago, his father, John Walsh, and Ernie Allen approached me to discuss what they saw as a growing and dangerous threat to our children, sex offenders. We talked about the fact there were over 500,000 sex offenders listed on various State registries, but because of poor Federal and State laws, we were missing over 150,000 of them. Soon after that meeting, I began work on the Sex Offender Registration Notification Act, which is contained in this bill today.

The Adam Walsh Act is the most comprehensive piece of child protection legislation this Congress has ever considered. The bill creates, among other things, new State and Federal regulations, community notification requirements, as well as new Federal criminal penalties for sex offenders. It also gives law enforcement new resources, including authorizing U.S. Marshals to go after missing sex offenders, 20 new task forces, 200 new Federal prosecutors, 45 new forensic scientists dedicated to investigating crimes against children.

It used to be that we tracked library books better than we do sex offenders, but this bill will even that score.

Better still, if the Justice Department has any stones and actually puts the safety of children before politics, Foley may get charged under the very laws he helped draft, sponsor, and codify into law.

Let's look at the titles of some of the legislation he's sponsored:

H.R. 5773: Child Fingerprints Safekeeping Act of 2006

H.R. 5749: Internet Stopping Adults Facilitating the Exploitation of Today's Youth Act (SAFETY) of 2006

H.R. 4905: Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act

H.R. 3133: Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act

H.R. 2423: Jacob Wetterling, Megan Nicole Kanka, and Pam Lychner Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act

H.R. 1223: Protecting Our Children from Violence Act of 2005

H.R. 1142: Child Modeling Exploitation Prevention Act

That's just from this year, mind you.  He's been in the House of Representatives for a decade.  He has a particular focus, no?

Who did the House Leadership go to when they found out about this?  Law Enforcement?  Nope.  They went to the political body in charge of running House Elections for Foley's Party.  Seems like keeping his "seat" in the House was more important.  THey didn't tell the FBI, Florida State Police, local authorities, the Department of Justice, the opposing political party, or any of the other pages.

Better still, they've known about this sort of behavior for at least 10-11 months, if not several years. It's starting to sound less and less like spin and damage control and more and more like a coverup (timeline).

Now, I know one of you will try to repeat the White House assertion that it was nothing more than some dirty emails.  Here's a link to the transcripts of the IM conversation from ABCNEWS.  As ABC warns, reader discretion is strongly advised.  Here's a sampling.
