Get ready for the orgy of disaster porn… This weekend and the week following and the avalance of 9/11 disaster porn is going to be unbearable.

New GOP Buzzword - one thing I appreciate about Republicans - nothing comes as a suprise.  One thing I hate about the Democrats - they always miss it and get blindsided.  The current buzzword de jour is COMPLACENCY.  When the next "terror event" happens, regardless as to whether it hype or legitimate, the blame for its occurence will solely be placed on the shoulders of the American people.  Hopefully, the rest of you are not dumb enough to let that fly.  Our next failure is the failure of government - this government - no different than Katrina.  Don't forget, and don't tell them otherwise.

Felt good yesterday - I heard somebody on NPR yesterday say exactly what I have been saying - the current international terrorism  problem is a direct result of the fall of the Soviet Union.  Validation!!  The devil you know, devil you don't, and all that.

The new NHTSA requirement to put crash test data on the window stickers of all automobiles (excluding pickup trucks?!?) for sale in the United States is protectionism against the Chinese, who no doubt will have trouble passing US crash testing requirements.  Not that the end result is a bad thing, mind you, but that is essentially the motivation.

I'm spending the day shredding a mountain of bills and junk mail, plus adding in some tax-deductible stuff to my tax spreadsheet.  Why can't I go to my bank or credit card statement and view receipts online.  Why can't every biller provide me a web interface where I can view my payments online.  Why can't I go to my insurence provider and get a statement after 12/31/2006 and see everything they covered, paid, and what my copays were?  They keep MY DATA, so why can't I GET A COPY?  Wouldn't I need it in George W. Bush's (on your own)ership society - better information leads to better decisions, which leads to more competition and better market efficiencies?

So, NPR says VW isn't doing well at home?  Yeah, so?  All automakers are doing better everywhere except in their home markets?  Trade and currency imbalances, anyone?
