Akkam’s Razor

This guy writes in Harpers that he would like to do things to "W" that would earn him a visit from the SS (Secret Service).  Then I find this site that stongly advocates impeachment, going so far as to overcome the common objections as to why impeachment won't be successfull.  While W is my least favorite living President, and definitely going to be neck-and-neck with Buchanon for worst. president. ever., I have to unfortunately say I support neither.  Here's why…

Dubya, at this point, is already a lame duck with better than two years to go.  An impeachment of him would be worthless at this point.  He's already shot his load - and Congressional Republicans will be running from him like he's on fire.  If there was to be an impeachment, plenty of lower level lackeys would get got also, so there's no fear of having to deal with a President Cheney.  And the options presented in the Harpers article, along with other terminal options are similarly unwise.

Any action that effectively terminates the Presidency of George W. Bush will effectively have the same effect as the killing of Osama Bin Laden.  The extremists who live and die for him will view him as a martyr, which is far more dangerous than allowing him to continue in office.

No, at this point, it's the movement that needs to be rooted out, not the individual who's the figurehead, and not even the sinister, shadowy rouges who are it's footsoldiers.  Just as much as the Middle East and East Asia need to do their part to rid their society of radical fundamentalists, so do we here.  The movement, the ideology, is what must be stopped, not the individuals.  And the answer to "how do we win the war on terror" is the same as "how do we win back the United States", if only we have the courage and moral certainty to do it.
