Suspicion [Tinfoil Hat Time]

June 6th, 2006 · No Comments

So let's get this straight.  Our country, famous for saying one thing and doing another is having a mammoth continuity exercise to simulate an attack on our national leadership on June 19th.  The powers that be also think we're due for a "minor" terror attack.  Meanwhile, we "stopped" a "major" terror threat in Canada, via our monitoring of the internet communication of another friendly nation.  Also, remeber how the summer prior to 9/11 was all sharks all the time?  Well, this time, it's the alligators (and a lion) who have acquired a taste for humans.

A rightwing Iranian dissident floats a fake story about non-muslims (ie. Jews and Christians) being forced to wear symbols of indentification (holocaust, anyone?), which supbsequently turns out to be totally fabricated.  The end result?  The author gets asked to come to the White House to share his views on the situation in Iraq and Iran.

Marriage is "under attack". Dear Leader's rating are in the toilet.  There's an important election coming up, and none of his initiatives, from Mars, to steroids, to invading Iran are getting any traction.  45% of Americans don't buy the official 9/11 story, the stock market has dropped 200-points (again) on fears of inflation, the Paris Hilton (Estate) Tax benefiting no more than a few dozen Americans may not be passed, the pain of high gas prices and stagnant wage growth is beginning to show up in the economy, and legislators across America are avoiding W like a bad fart.

There's also word of a senior GOP memo highlighting how a terror attack may help the GOP in the polls, since National Security is their strong suit (completely ignoring the fact that said attack would occur while they were keeping us safe).  The memo is reported here and here:

The closely-guarded memo lays out a list of scenarios to bring the Republican party back from the political brink, including a devastating attack by terrorists that could “validate” the President’s war on terror and allow Bush to “unite the country” in a “time of national shock and sorrow.”

The memo says such a reversal in the President's fortunes could keep the party from losing control of Congress in the 2006 midterm elections.

GOP insiders who have seen the memo admit it’s a risky strategy and point out that such scenarios are “blue sky thinking” that often occurs in political planning sessions.

“The President’s popularity was at an all-time high following the 9/11 attacks,” admits one aide. “Americans band together at a time of crisis.”

Sounds like a perfect time to raise the terror threat level.
