How to tell when someone is lying…

November 28th, 2005 · 1 Comment

An interesting link via digg. Cliffs:

How this information is used to detect lies: Example: Let’s say your child ask’s you for a cookie, and you ask them "well, what did your mother say?" As they reply "Mom said… yes." they look to the left. This would indicate a made up answer as their eyes are showing a "constructed image or sound. Looking to the right would indicated a "remembered" voice or image, and thus would be telling the truth.

And of course, it’s not necessarily an established science.

for some reason i inherited a gift that i still deny having from my mom. she could always tell when people were lying, thank god i got passed the radar with my stealth powers. i personally stop caring, until i heard about this a few years back. i had a few friends and some co-workers that i would get vibes off of (really, sometimes elaborate, pointless lies). sure enough, all looked left. of course i wouldn’t say this true with everyone, the people i tested were mostly kinda dim, but nice. if a cop ever pulls me over i just make up a quick math problem while saying a friends name and tell him i left thirty minutes prior while i’m looking at the clock. you have to do it all at the same time, the trick is to keep thinking logical, rather than creatively, so it makes you use the other side of your brain. subtle, but i agree it would work in a high percentage of children, or dumb people, correction, liars, who are dumb.
