Thoughts on something very grave…

October 12th, 2005 · No Comments

First, a little quote for some context via Wikipedia, sourced from a New York Times Magazine article by Ron Suskind:

The aide said that guys like me were “in what we call the reality-based community,” which he defined as people who “believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.” … “That’s not the way the world really works anymore,” he continued. “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”

There’s an undercurrent of mumblings on the internets that, if proved correct, will shake this country, and our confidence in it’s institutions to its very core.

Disclaimer: I enjoy conspiracy theories as academic mental exercises. That being said, I also ascribe to Hanlon’s Razor, which postulates “Never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by stupidity.”

So here’s the cliffnotes: We have plenty of cheerleaders in the press. We may eventually find out via the Plame-Rove-Libby investigation that the Iraq War Group and the CIA have several members of the media in their pockets, such as the “honorable” Ms. Miller, and they have been used to pimp the company line (see this Wall Street Journal article on the broadening investigation). Our “liberal media”, in particular the “newspaper of record”, may have been acting against the will of the people to do the bidding of government operatives. Armstrong Williams may very well be the tip of the iceberg.

We will find out that neocons as well as Bush, Cheney, Condi, Bolton, and many others, 21 to be exact (with rumors of 22 indictments coming), pushed the Iraq-as-terrorist-threat story, for personal or ideological gain. We will find out that some same sources were used throughout the election, manipulating terror threats to steal someones thunder and reinforce how the administration keeps us safe, right up to the most recent non-threat to the New York Subway System.

We need to drive a stake through the heart of this beast. I don’t know whether or not the analogy should be opening the curtains on the vampire, or the end of Godfather II, but something BIG needs to be done.
