Akkam’s Razor

Today. This morning. I hear that a student, a graduating (college) senior, a football player, had died. I immediately wondered if it was someone I knew. Nothing but rumors at that time … nothing in the paper… nothing on the web… was it real, or rumor?

How was it confirmed? Through the facebook.

Sure enough, by tonight, several of his friends have signed on, and left their condolences. It’s strange how culturally we went from grieving privately, to roadside memorials of stuffed animals and flowers, to candlelight vigils attended by complete strangers. And now we go online, grieving in a virtual parlor, sharing our sorrow silently, or with a short message to the departeds friends and loved ones. I didn’t know him…I don’t don’t know what happened to him…or why…but after reading, I feel like I sort of do now. Peace.
