What makes a classic car?

June 30th, 2005 · No Comments

Autoblog has a post detailing what they think will be the future classics. My personal list is heavy on domestics, but follows the same genre. I’ll have to give the imports a little more thought.

(In no particular order) I like sleepers…

  • 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT: Just when they got it right (handling and V6), GM killed it.
  • Dodge Viper (first generation): First real domestic supercar (sorry, vette’s are to civilized)
  • Ford Taurus SHO (first generation): First revitalization of the American muscle car - humble family car roots on ‘roids.
  • Dodge Omni GLH: Silly little car that had no real reason to be. Gutsy econobox.
  • Chrysler Crossfire: Great potential but it will flop. C’mon, only 200hp? Needs 250-350 and maybe AWD.1989
  • Dodge Dakota Shelby: Again, bread and butter outside with big V8 inside.
  • 1990 Chevy 454SS pickup: Four-hundred and Fifty-Four Cubic Inches
  • Chevy Impala SS: Ultimate mafia mobile. As Car and Driver said, “Lord Vader, your vehicle awaits.”
  • Buick GNX: Modern GTO for the eighties.
  • GMC Syclone/Typhoon: Frankenstien! Had to do something with all those supercharged 3.8 Liter Sixes.
