I love how quickly everone forgets the mantra that there was a link between 9/11 and Iraq, that Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden played golf together, and Iraq was producing WMD that could fall into the hands of terrorist. We all know that all three are false. Now we return to the same tired rhetoric - “fight them abroad so we don’t fight them here” and the like.
So I’m guessing that the expectation of the Bush Administration will be a wall of shrill complaints by the left, reinforcing that the left does in fact hate America and doesn’t want to help the troops. So will the left be smart enough to anticipate and triangulate BushCo.? I’m looking forward to ThinkProgress’ despining.
Edit: So will the Democrats-in-power be smart enough to taken an opportunity staring in the face, or will they fall for Rove’s bait. He clearly wants liberals to show that they ARE weak on terrorism and National Security. Smart Democrats see the door cracked open and barge in. Take this opportunity - how can you support the troops when you were committed to this war before you had a reason to? When the Intelligence that you had, massaged by the OSP, Cheney, and John Bolton, was far from a homerun? When your primary member in the Coalition of the Willing states that you have no exit strategy? When your Secretary of Defense, when repeatedly pummelled with questions of insufficient planning, equipment, logistics, and boots on the ground answers “you go to war with the army you have, not the army you want”? When you continue to repeat false allegations linking Iraq to 9/11, when they’ve been repeatedly shown to be false.
Again, you won’t get red state America to admit they were wrong. Maybe they can be enlightened enough to know they were misled.
