Peak Oil is Now | The Regular

My own local paper has had a couple of articles on peak oil. For me, this is old news, having read about it better than a year ago, and as a theory it’s older still. It is an eventuality, however, the point top argue when it becomes a certainty.
But it’s not a bad thing. Let’s think about all the things that oil has made possible…
We have plastics, which have made our lives easier, but have also increased our consumption and furthered our existence as a disposable society. Perhaps less use of plastics and more on craftsmanship will cause our society to focus on quality and not cost. Traveling home and to work is a function of cheap and plentiful gas…city’s (and rural areas) will benefit from a captive population. Mass market manufacturers and retailers have made the small town producer and seller a thing of the past, unable to compete with Chinese imports and Walmart. Equalize the playing field by taking away the advantage of cheap transportation costs, and suddenly buying locally becomes more attractive.
