This has to be against some kind of junk fax thing, right? From the CAN SPAM ACT:

47 U.S.C. § 227(b)(1)(C) [italic text added in the CAN SPAM Act of 2003]It shall be unlawful for any person within the United States or any person outside the United States if the recipient is within the United States to use any telephone facsimile machine, computer, or other device to send an unsolicited advertisement to a telephone facsimile machine;

If the fax number is right (818 area code), it’s coming from the San Fernando Valley. If you read JunkFax, you’ll see that this and some similar themed faxes were sent during the fall (PDF)of last year (push polling, anyone?). Those faxes contained the same conservative vitriol that we’ve come to expect, covering gay marriage, keeping “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance, and whether Bush deserves a second term (curiously sent to Bill Frist?). From that pdf listed above, and with confirmation from JunkFax, it seems that the faxes were sent by Protus IP. From their website, you can see that their main line of work is “INTERNET-BASED MESSAGING SOLUTIONS FOR BUSINESS”.

By going to NANPA, we see that the number is one managed by MCI.
