Akkam’s Razor

If you are wearing a ‘Born-to-be-Wild’ t-shirt, you probably aren’t.

Wow. My second ever blog comment.

November 4th, 2004 · No Comments

I have received my second ever blog comment. I’d like to take a moment to thank Rod Stanton for (presumably) taking the time to read some of my blog and to post a comment.

For starters, Rod, may I call you Rod? Let me tell you that I appreciate the fact that although you could have easily have posted a vile retort anonymously, you chose to include you name and location, which I appreciate. I want to tell you that I promptly Google’d your name, to figure out a little bit about you. I have to tell you, that as I response, I turned on registration for comments…public discourse is public, not written on a bathroom wall. Just so you know.

Now Rod, it appears that you have been just as partisan as I have. It also appears that your opposition to my candidate runs as strong as mine to yours. And of course, your won. However, he is the President of the United States of America, not the Red States of America. Our geography, sociology, culture, and economy are all intertwined, and I hope you realize that.

See, what I hope to be right about, and what I hope you’ll see over time, is that “they” are using your faith to “buy” you. They told you that liberals are evil, and they have been telling you that since we were fighting godless communists in Vietnam. The point is, I can respect your beliefs (and not to sound like being cliched, like having black friends), two of the people that I have most enjoyed working alongside of and discussing politics with have been fundamentalist christians. We have a hard time looking at politics as being moralistic and values based, because we are opposed to forcing our views on others. You, on the other hand, may view our beliefs as suppressing your ability to be a Christian. The truth, like most things, is somewhere in the middle.

I hope you decide not to be a sore winner and realize that the red and blue make up America, and compromise is where it is at, not majority rule and dominion with a 2% “mandate”. Bush could have easily lost by as much as he won…and what would you have said about that? Tolerance, which is supposed to be a Christian value, is called on right now. My party is hurting, and afraid for our future, as well as that of the country. We are not going away, and we are not changing. I hope you realize the value of compromise, because otherwise this is going to be a VERY uncomfortable four years.

Ron
