A strident minority: anti-Bush US troops in Iraq | csmonitor.com

September 20th, 2004 · No Comments

The common assumption is that an incumbent Commander-in-Chief will be the benefactor of an overwhelming majority of the active military vote. However, with the Pentagon’s obstruction of a popular website used to assist expats and military vote, in the interest of security, one can’t help but wonder what the Bush campaign thinks of the opinions of those under his command?

MSNBC had the following observations on the statistics of the military vote:

Unlike the general public, the military generally comes out to vote in higher percentages. About 70 percent of the 1.4 million active duty military members voted in 2000 compared with about 51 percent of the general public, according to federal election records.

As highlighted later in the above MSNBC article, a survey conducted by Military Times last year showed that Bush enjoyed an approval rating of 56%, versus a comparative 50% approval rate nationwide. However, how will the grumblings of deployed Reserve and National Guard forces, including their friends, families, and spouses, affect the chances for Bush to keep his seat?
